The 12th Run with a Book, ON THE TRAIL TO THE FINISH, is an open running event organized by the Nicolaus Copernicus University (UMK) Alumni Program and the UMK Marathon Club. It is dedicated to the UMK community in Toruń and to enthusiasts of running and reading. The event takes place on the university campus in Bielany, Toruń, and the course follows forest paths and lanes through the academic woodland. Participants must complete the course while holding a book weighing at least 100 grams, highlighting the event’s distinctive combination of sport and the promotion of reading. The run is patronized by Robert Małecki, a crime-fiction author and UMK graduate, who takes part in the event and meets participants after the race.

The race office opens at 9:30. Online registration is open until 20 May 2026, with in-person registration available on race day. Entry fees are paid cashlessly on site (by card or BLIK). After the race, meet patron Robert Małecki at the Picnic with a Pump, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the UMK Alumni Program. An additional “With Małecki” category is available for runners carrying a book by the patron; results are calculated using an algorithm that takes both finishing time and book specifications into account.
